Organizational Leadership

Organizational leadership takes many forms including teaching, preaching, fundraising, and community outreach. In many contexts, leadership also includes administrative leadership, oversight, and collaboration. I have served organizations that are small, medium, and large in size and scope. In all of these settings, relationship and communication are essential to healthy staff teams, vibrant programming, and ongoing learning.

Culture impacts administration and oversight, regardless of the organization’s size. History and culture, vision and mission, and gifts and challenges are important to consider in leading an organization. What works well in one context might not work well in another - flexibility, learning, and trying new things are essential.

In working with staff, my approach includes consistent and regular communication and meetings, setting clear expectations and goals, and ensuring that collaboration and partnership are central to our work together. These principles are also important when collaborating with lay leaders and volunteers. It is essential to have these regular practices and ways of being with one another so that when conflict arises we are best prepared to address it openly and together.

“It is so rare to find in one person the mix of ministry skills Margaret brings to her work. She’s pastorally sensitive, organizationally astute, and has a way of both caring for people and at the same time keeping her eye fixed on larger purpose. Margaret’s soulful whole-heartedness alchemizes all of those skills in truly excellent ministry.”
